1/64th scale Slot Cars to the next level! Schedule (dates, maps, pictures, hotels etc)
|
The Association started in April 2002
as EHORC (Essex HO Racing Club) and, was set up with the aim
of running H:O scaled slot-cars on a mixture of Tomy
track,
Lupico/Esposito AFX track & modified Tomy track with the
Sourcing of a hall in Billericay.
That meeting, run by former Sutton H:O Racing Club
coordinator Peter Baldock, was enjoyed by all attending ,the central
location being especially appreciated. The second meet was again at
Billericay, again run by Peter but this time utilizing the good size
of the hall to full effect with a large track designed by Jim Kelly,
who also hand crafted many of the corners. In December, 2002 Jim sourced the Bury St. Edmunds hall for the January meet with location, large hall size and wide choice of chassis allowed again being the order of the day. At this stage EHORC became EAHORC (East Anglia HO Racing Club).
The Associations' HO races have a regularly-attending core of 12 members or so, which we hope will grow whilst retaining the friendly atmosphere. We Run Chassis from Mattell/Tyco, Marchon, Tomy, Life-like, Scalextric, Round 2, Wizzard & Artin in a variety of classes. Body styles include F1, GT, Nascar and Sportscars.
EAHORC members regularly take part in the world famous 24hr race held in Derby. Members Tony Baldock & Deane Walpole race with the USA team which has won the race for the past three years & set a new world record in 2006 whilst members Peter Baldock & Nigel Sykes won the event in 2002.
In March 2005 our name was changed again to English Association of HO Clubs, to reflect to involvement of two venues running to the ''East Anglia'' rules and format. In 2006 we introduced our now established multi-class racing format and the renowned Mussel Bay Club in Kings Lynn, Norfolk became the first club outside of the HO sphere to add racing for it to it's roster, hosting EAHORC races and their own club nights.
As of today there are four clubs affiliated to us and we are actively looking to add two or three more, plus helping any and all slot car clubs and individuals to get more from HO scale. To this end we have, for example, put on displays using John Oven's superb garage track (which sets the standard for home layouts, see second picture down on the left of this page) and Andy Whorton's AFX Raceway portable track as seen at the 2007 BSCRA ''Nats'' (see bottom picture on right).
